Between the aircraft door, the car, the tender and the hotel lobby, most travel bags fail. Either they carry well and look like equipment. Or they look beautiful and give up after the first long day. Anyone who travels a lot and cares about design has had to choose until now.
Pharovant wants to make that choice unnecessary. Its approach is unusual for a luxury brand: it does not start with the leather, but with the carrying system. Only when weight, support and movement are right does the craftsmanship come in.
Function gives the piece its justification. Design makes it desirable. The limited run and the personal story make it a collector's piece.
A category of its own
The Grand Terrain 45 is neither a business backpack nor a fashion accessory. It sits at the intersection of performance luggage, design object and customisable collector's piece. The idea comes from worlds that understand rarity and long ownership: from fine watches, Pharovant borrows the numbering, from classic leather goods the standard for materials and workmanship. Unlike seasonal fashion, the backpack is meant to be carried, cared for and repaired for years.
Grand Terrain 45 in five building blocks
- Carrying architecture. An adjustable back plate, wide shoulder pads, a removable hip belt, a sternum strap and load-lifter and compression straps. The weight sits close to the body and is transferred to the hips, fully loaded or half empty.
- Hybrid construction. On the outside, a ballistic technical fabric with a reinforced base and waterproof zips. Automotive or marine-grade full-grain leather only where it counts: on the lid, the handle and the contact zones. This keeps the weight low and the backpack durable.
- Module set. Dedicated cubes for tech, clothing and wet gear, a laptop compartment, dividers and a rain cover. Each module can be taken out on its own, into the hotel wardrobe, the boat locker or the meeting room.
- Finishing. Embroidery with nautical, floral and tattoo-inspired motifs, some with metal thread. Plus a metal edition number and a signature.
- Product passport. Each piece receives a passport with serial number, material history and edition. Once an edition is complete, it is never repeated.

Function visible, but not martial
The greatest design risk would be a product that looks like an expensive tactical backpack. Pharovant therefore deliberately avoids camouflage patterns, military imagery and the matching vocabulary. Frame, straps and padding remain visible because they prove the standard. But the design language is calm, and the colours come from the world of travel: sea, coast, night and city.

Who Pharovant is for
The target group is not luxury buyers in general, but people who regularly move between places and care about style while doing so:
- Travellers with individually fitted vehicles who want luggage that matches the interior and their travel profile.
- Yacht and marina guests who need a backpack for deck, tender and shore leave, resistant to salt water and weather.
- Resort, villa and second-home travellers moving between flight, hotel and beach.
- Creatives and photographers who want secure, modular organisation for their equipment.
- Hospitality and event professionals who need to look representative and robust at the same time.
- Collectors who commission a one-off piece with its own story.
Editions instead of collections
Pharovant is not planning seasonal collections, but small, numbered editions on the same platform. What changes is the story: the colour of the fabric, the character of the leather, the embroidery motif. It begins with the founder's prototype The Beacon in navy and ivory with a lighthouse embroidered in gold thread. Three clearly distinct worlds are planned for the launch:
- Falcon Nocturne for the car and night travel: black on black, broken only by a golden feather.
- Ocean Regatta for yacht and coast: deep blue with whale, coral and compass motifs.
- Mallorca Terrain for resort and weekend: coastline, almond blossom and olive green with cognac leather.
Further series are waiting in the sketchbook, telling the story of a journey across several bags: Ocean Passage with five seas, Big City with skylines in embroidery and World Extremes from the Arctic to the Sahara.

The Atelier: one piece for one person
Alongside the editions, the Pharovant Atelier designs one-off pieces. Leather, thread, monogram and motif are chosen together with the client, for example to match the colours and leather of an individually fitted yacht or vehicle. Each one-off piece carries a signature, and the handwork is documented.
The path to the first piece
Pharovant does not rely on a broad collection, but on a launch in clear steps. Success is measured not by likes, but by genuine interest.
- Feasibility. Confidential workshop with manufacturing partners, choice of platform, material samples, bill of materials and legal review.
- Prototype. A functional sample and a show sample, carrying tests and tests against salt, sun, wet, sand and abrasion.
- Private preview. Curated conversations with future owners about colour worlds and fittings, with the option to reserve a number.
- Founders' Edition. A small, numbered first series, made in Europe or by a quality-assured partner nearby, with final inspection by hand.
- Next edition. Only after the experience of the first series will further editions and the Atelier programme be decided.
Why Pharovant belongs in the Lab
In the Lighthouse Lab we present projects that rethink something. With Pharovant, it is the order: function and durability first, then design, then rarity. The name combines Pharos, the lighthouse of Alexandria, with Avant, forward. It carries the idea of Lighthouse Projects further: a light that shows the way, translated into an object you take with you.
Get involved
The Grand Terrain 45 is a concept, and all images are design visualisations. We are looking for partners in bag and backpack manufacturing, leatherwork and embroidery, as well as conversation partners from yachting, boutique hospitality and vehicle customisation. Conversations take place under a non-disclosure agreement. More about the brand at pharovant.com.
